What are you craving more of in 2018?

How did the end of your year wrap up? I hope you’ve been able to carve out some time to reflect, looking back as well as ahead to the coming year. I’ve very much on purpose been taking this last week OFF-no emails, very little social media time, and lots of cooking yummy food, reading leisurely with candles lit nearby, and playing around with outfit ideas (#priorities;)).

I’ve also been getting quiet and just sitting with my own lovely soul, creating space for it to tell me what I’m craving. The other day I asked myself, “What’s the one thing you need more of in 2018?”

And do you know what came to me?

My soul responded with, “I want to feel more lit up about my life.”

…..yummmm. That phrase embodies a lot for me. It’s two parts, really. It means I want to create more moments in my life that light me up, and it also means I want to appreciate the goodness I already have in my life, and let all those good things make me feel lit up.

One way I’ve already been incorporating this idea the last couple days is to rethink gratitude. Instead of scanning the room and trying to make a mental or journaled list of what I’m grateful for that day, I’ve been reframing the question to:

“What is really lighting me up right now? What areas of my life am I really excited about today?”

This has been helping me feel more emotionally grateful (which, I’m pretty sure, is the point of gratitude lists), and it’s been honoring what my heart is saying she wants.

I encourage you to take a moment and ask your own soul what it is craving in the new year. It could be more ease, more time for yourself, more time with friends….it could be feeling more passionate about your creative pursuits, or just more permission to be at peace with yourself. These are all awesome things, and as I’m writing this out I’m like “Dude, I want all of that, please and thank you!”

Let yourself want it all. Don’t edit down your desires, that doesn’t help anybody. It’s not noble to stay small and want nothing just so you don’t rock the boat.

This could be the year that everything changes…..

…it could be the year that you change everything.

Happy new year!
